Support for dementia
Dementia is a gradual, terminal condition, causing a widespread loss of mental functions and severely affecting a person's ability to carry out previously simple daily activities.
Dementia can affect people of any age, but is most common in older people. It is estimated more than 7,600 people in County Durham aged over 65 have dementia.
Dementia Advisor Service
The Dementia Advisor Service in County Durham offers support, advice and information to people living with dementia/memory problems, their families and carers. Dementia Advisors can:
- give you information about what to do if you have a diagnosis of dementia
- give you information about memory loss or dementia
- help you to find and access local services
- help you to plan for the future
