Meet Emily - Learning Engagement Support Officer
"I'm proud to be part of a team that is passionate about delivering and developing high-quality, learning activities and events across County Durham's cultural portfolio. This varied role can one day see me delivering workshops in our dedicated learning studio at The Story, to taking our workshops on the road to County Durham schools the next. The job allows me to meet and learn from lots of interesting people in the cultural and heritage sectors across the North East. No day is the same as we continue to develop and deliver learning programmes across the portfolio, introducing summer holiday family activities and weekly under 5s sessions.
My favourite part of the role is hearing the laughter and excitement of young people visiting the venue and sharing Durham's fascinating heritage with new and intrigued young visitors and their families.
I love seeing friendships being made in the under 5s session, not only by the little ones who attend but also between parents and guardians in our stay, play and chatter time after the class.
I look forward to working with venues like Killhope Lead Mining Museum, Gala Durham and more to continue developing exciting and engaging learning opportunities across County Durham... and trying all the different sweet treats in the café at The Story!

Meet Kay - Building Control Officer
"What I love about my job, is that it is so different every day! You could be working at the coast in the morning, then in the afternoon you could be working all the way up in Weardale. I came into Building Control just after I had my daughter. It was the flexibility of being able to work full time and continue being a mam that appealed to me. As a Building Control Officer people presume it is very much a male-dominated profession, but it isn't! Many engineers and site managers that I work with, are actually women too. In our team, as a Building Control Officer, we have a lot of support around our work and it is brilliant. I know I can pick up the phone and that support is there!Working in Transport and Contract Services
