There are a number of courses in public health that are freely available.

Introducing Public Health (Open Learn)

This is a free six-hour course presenting key elements of public health and health promotion.

OpenLearn - Introducing public health


Foundation of Public Health Practice (Coursera)

Coursera offer four courses looking at public health challenges, health needs assessment, evaluation and public health intelligence, behaviour change and health protection. This is a longer course which is intended to be completed over four months at a pace of four hours per week.

All Our Health

This provides bite-sized e-learning sessions on more than 20 topics including: giving children the best start in life, child oral health, smoking and tobacco, population screening, climate change, cardiovascular disease prevention, workplace health, and healthy ageing.

FutureLearn

FutureLearn offers time-limited access to free online courses from leading universities and specialist organisations, with groups of learners taking part together (but at a time to suit themselves). Email alerts can be set up to be notified of start dates and new courses. Every run of a course has a set start date but you can join it and work through it after it starts. Please look for the free option.

For staff working in healthcare and population health

E-learning for healthcare (EFL)

Developed by Health Education England, this provides free to access resources for anyone working in healthcare and population health. 

It offers a central location for elearning, reading material, guidance, toolkits, videos and factsheets from multiple sources.

Access is via the NHS Electronic Staff record or an OpenAthens account.

Many of the programmes relate to public health including health inequalities, population health management, health equity assessment tool, population health surveillance, and tackling homelessness,
