There are four service areas within Neighbourhoods and Climate Change:

Our services are delivered through the following areas:

Highways Services

Highways Services have the responsibility for delivering strategic roads, roads operations and design services and functions. Services include:

  • road maintenance
  • winter maintenance
  • local traffic management
  • street lighting
  • major road projects
  • road repairs
  • architectural and building design
  • civil engineering design

Environment

Environment has responsibility for refuse and recycling collections, neighbourhood protection, street scene, building and facilities maintenance, and management of our vehicle fleet. The core purpose and aims of the service are to work closely with the community in providing a clean, safe, accessible and sustainable built and natural environment through delivering cost-effective direct services which are responsive to local needs. Services include: 

  • street cleaning
  • Rubbish and recycling collections
  • Parks and grounds maintenance
  • children's play areas
  • bereavement services
  • pest control
  • stray dogs
  • neighbourhood wardens
  • civic pride
  • building repairs and maintenance
  • catering and cleaning
  • vehicle maintenance and inspections
  • North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • heritage, landscape and design (includes Archaeology teamLandscape and Arboriculture team)
