International education

Our commitment to helping young people make sense of the world can be seen through the many projects which involve our schools, in addition to the high number of schools that have achieved the Government's International School Award.

We will support schools that wish to become involved in school-linking projects. The following pages give an overview of linking opportunities:

Schools Online: partner with a school: we co-ordinate the British Council's regional network for international learning, and arrange a programme of professional development sessions and information sessions for all schools in the North East.
Europe Direct North East England: for more information on what this service can offer your school or college, visit Europe Direct North East England.

More information

Whether your school is working towards the final stages of the International School Award or you are just beginning to explore ways of introducing an international perspective to learning, you can contact us for assistance.

Previous awards

In 2013, we won the HSBC local authority award for excellence and innovation in school-linking for the second time. This prestigious award recognises our work to help County Durham schools link with countries around the world; including establishments in France, Africa and Japan.
