Older driver training

If you're over 55 and you have concerns about any aspect of your driving, or just want to refresh your driving skills, book a Safer Driving with Age (SAGE) assessment.

SAGE is designed to help people keep on driving as long as it is safe to do so.

Fill in and return the SAGE application form (PDF) [339KB] .

Please read the SAGE information sheet (PDF) [600KB]  before you apply. It includes information about medical conditions that may affect your suitability to continue driving.

The assessment

The assessment has three stages:

  1. confirmation that there is no medical condition that would prevent you from driving
  2. an eyesight check
  3. an assessed drive with a friendly driving assessor

The assessment takes place in your own car on a route that you choose. At the end of your drive, the assessor will discuss any points about your driving that are necessary.

Cost

The assessment costs £17.50.

What happens next

Once your application is processed, a driving assessor will contact you to arrange an appointment to carry out the assessment which takes 45 minutes.
