Community Action Scheme - previous projects

The Community Action Scheme, led by our Community Action Team (CAT), has been tackling housing and environmental issues across County Durham since 2013, following a successful pilot programme in 2012.

What the programme includes

Since the success of our pilot scheme we have continued to deliver eight to ten weeks programmes across various locations in County Durham which include:

  • issue identification and planning
  • clean ups
  • resident meetings
  • drop-in sessions providing information and advice
  • a review of the work carried out

At each location, we work with residents and partner agencies to improve the local community by dealing with a range of environmental and housing issues. We encourage local residents and community groups to get involved by asking them to complete surveys and attend residents' meetings, following which, priorities for improvement are agreed and a strategy is put in place to tackle these concerns.

In addition, drop-in sessions are held throughout our programme, giving residents the opportunity to talk to a range of professionals who give advice on areas including housing, energy efficiency and healthy living.
