Business Improvement Districts

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business controlled initiative which gives local organisations the power to raise funds locally, to be spent locally, with the aim of improving their own business environment.

The purpose of a BID is to give businesses control over the development and delivery of projects and monitor their results. It is aimed at increasing the footfall in the area, leading to an increase in business performance and improvement in the business environment.

The Durham BID received a positive vote in the ballot which was declared on 3 July 2017, for an area of Durham City that is subject to the BID levy for the next five years.
