News- Award for parking and transport

Published September 23, 2024 10.15am

We've won a national award for our parking and transport services.

We've won The Back Office Award in the British Parking Awards 2024.

The awards celebrate the best of British parking and recognise the leading examples of car park management, enforcement, design and team work. The Back Office Award meanwhile recognises the "excellent" work of back office teams working for local authorities, private parking operators, transport consultancies and civil enforcement agencies.

Our joint submission with our parking enforcement contractor NSL was one of six shortlisted entries from across the country.

As well as winning The Back Office Award, our parking and transport infrastructure team and NSL were also shortlisted nationally in the 'Parking Team of the Year' category.

Second year in a row

The success follows us and NSL winning 'Outstanding Car Park Operator' at the same awards last year, for facilities at our three Durham Park and Ride sites and The Sands Multi-Storey Car Park.

Between them, we and NSL look after a number of parking and transport services, including civil parking, bus lane and blue badge enforcement; as well as the park and ride sites.

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, our Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: "We're really pleased to have been recognised at a national level for our parking and transport services.

"We work closely with NSL to deliver a number of services for the benefit of everyone who lives or works in, or visits County Durham. This includes taking action against the minority who breach parking regulations which are in place for the benefit of all road users, and the running of our three Durham Park and Ride sites, which help people travelling in and out of our city and reduce traffic and emissions.

"It's good to get further recognition on the back of last year's award through this new win and shortlisting."
