Weights and measures

Many goods are required to be sold with an indication of their weight or quantity. Equipment used to weigh or measure goods to be sold must comply with specific standards and be tested prior to use.

Trading Standards operate a planned inspection programme, which includes testing all weighing and measuring equipment used for trade within the county. We also give advice to traders on how to comply with weights and measures law.

If you have bought goods which you think are less than the quantity stated, please let us know.

We give advice to businesses and consumers in County Durham on weights and measures legal requirements.
