Make a difference in the Chester-le-Street area

Published February 20, 2024 9.28am

Individuals who would like to help deliver positive change in the Chester-le-Street area are being invited to join the local Area Action Partnership (AAP) board.

We are recruiting a public representative to be a part of the Chester-le-Street and District AAP board from May 2024.

As one of 14 AAPs operating across County Durham, Chester-le-Street and District brings together community-focused people and organisations to tackle local issues and support projects that make a difference.

Successful track record

Becoming a public representative is an opportunity for individuals who are living, working, studying or volunteering within the Chester-le-Street area to join a dynamic and proactive board with a track record of delivering successful projects within the communities it serves.

It is a voluntary role with a requirement to attend six board meetings per year. Public representatives are also encouraged to contribute to the AAP's task groups, which lead in addressing the agreed priorities. These are: community support, cost of living and regenerating towns and villages.

Passionate about your community

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, our Cabinet Member for economy and partnerships, said: "Our AAPs operate at the heart of our communities and tackle the issues that matter most to the people who live, work, study and volunteer there.

"The public representative role is all about sharing your valuable local knowledge, being passionate about your community and working in partnership to help make a difference in the wider area. It's an incredibly rewarding and worthwhile thing to do and I would encourage anyone who is interested to apply."

To find out more about the role, or to request an application pack, please contact 03000 261135 or chester-le-streetaap@durham.gov.uk.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 1 March.
