Health promotion in County Durham schools

We are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of children, young people and adults in County Durham.

We work with schools to help them develop good practice on a wide range of health issues. These include areas such as emotional health and wellbeing, building resilience, physical activity, healthy eating and sexual health as well as issues surrounding drugs, alcohol and smoking.

Schools are supported to ensure that the personal development and wellbeing of young people is fundamental to their work. Health-related topics are mainly delivered in schools through the Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) curriculum.

Support for schools includes policy and curriculum development, teaching and learning, assessment, continuing professional development for school staff, and advice and guidance on new health initiatives.

You can Contact Education Durham for further information.
