Housing associations include providers of former council housing. Also known as registered providers, they are committed to providing affordable housing for rent. This includes houses, flats and bungalows.

Former council housing

Council housing in the following areas is now provided by registered providers:

  • Barnard Castle, Cockfield, Evenwood, Etherley and surrounding areas - North Star Housing Group
  • Chester-le-Street, Sacriston, Great Lumley, Pelton, Consett, Stanley, Lanchester, Langley Park and surrounding areas - Karbon Homes
  • Crook, Bishop Auckland, Coundon, Durham City, Easington, Peterlee, Seaham and surrounding areas - believe housing
  • Sedgefield, Newton Aycliffe, Spennymoor and surrounding areas - Livin
