Education Equalities
Our Education Equalities team can support schools to meet the statutory requirements of the Equality Act 2010.
We support inclusion and the improvement of educational outcomes for children and young people with protected characteristics (as defined under the Equality Act 2010) by raising awareness, staff training and pupil workshops in schools. A key aim of our service is to ensure prejudice-related discrimination is reduced.
Support for schools
Our team can work with individual or clusters of schools to tailor equalities sessions and we offer a variety of packages of support including:
- Equality Act - staff and/or governor briefing sessions on the school's statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010.
- Advice and guidance - schools can seek specialist advice and guidance on reducing whole-school prejudice and supporting individual pupils who are at risk of underachieving or experiencing difficulties relating to their protected characteristic of ethnic group, language, culture, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity.
- Assemblies/workshops - age-appropriate assemblies and workshops can be developed for pupils linked to equalities, diversity and discrimination.
- Special events workshops - individual workshops and full days can be hosted for pupils around equalities related events such as Holocaust Memorial Day, Anti-Bullying Week, Refugee Week, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) History Month, Disability Awareness Month.
- Bespoke packages are available to address individual school needs, including staff CPD, collapsed curriculum days, pupil workshops and assemblies.
By engaging with our briefings, workshops and activities schools are demonstrating their commitment to equality and inclusion.
