Ropery Lane Cemetery

The cemetery was created in 1894 and the first burial took place in 1895. The cemetery covers approximately four and a half hectares and is located on Ropery Lane in the south eastern part of Chester-le-Street town centre. It is easily accessible by foot, car and bus. 

The cemetery caters for all denominations. It is maintained to a high standard and is a key open space within the town centre area. The lawned sections include many fine examples of different species of tree.

The cemetery has a Green Flag award. These awards recognise well managed parks and open spaces for all to enjoy.  The Green Flag Awards are the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK.
