Understanding SEND training

As part of the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) Reforms Programme, Education colleagues delivered a rolling programme of free training sessions throughout 2017 called Understanding SEND.

Who attended the training

The training was available to all professionals (apart from teachers who access separate training) working within health, social care, education and the voluntary sector who come into contact with children and young people who may have SEND.

What the training covered

The sessions described in detail the way in which children and young people with SEND have their needs identified and met and:

  • provided an overview of the Local Offer
  • informed participants of patterns and trends in SEND
  • provided a clear understanding of SEND and the support available (myth busting)

In this section you will find copies of the key PowerPoint presentation and handouts from the training:

We also published answers to any 'Frequently Asked Questions' from the sessions on this page and updated them regularly.

You can find the information leaflets used at the training sessions on our How different needs are supported in schools page.
