Library services to your door

Books on Wheels and the Bookbus provide library services to people who are unable to get to our library buildings.

Books on Wheels

Apply to use the Books on Wheels service

Books on Wheels is a free service that delivers books to people who have mobility problems and who cannot use their local library, or have no one able or willing to go to the library for them.

The Books on Wheels service has over 80 volunteers and assistants who deliver a selection of books and talking books to readers at home every three weeks. They can also find out information and answers to enquiries on a wide range of subjects, from practical help to quiz questions.

The Bookbus

The Bookbus provides a mobile library service to older people and people with disabilities in residential homes, day care centres and sheltered housing schemes throughout County Durham.

The Bookbus visits over 50 homes, centres and schemes on a three weekly rota. It is designed around the needs of people who use the service, and is fully accessible to everyone. A wide selection of books are available to borrow in hardback, paperback, large print and talking books. Contact Books on Wheels for more information.

For unexpected closures, please see our disruptions, closures and warnings page.
