Composter volunteer scheme

Join our team of enthusiastic composting volunteers, called master composters, and promote the benefits of home composting as a way of reducing waste.

Contact Waste Management to book a place on one of our training sessions or for more details about the scheme.

What master composters do

  • offer advice and tips to get the most out of composting
  • give talks and home composting demonstrations at local events
  • help local schools

Become a master composter

If you're an enthusiastic gardener and / or would like to help your local community and the environment - we'd like to hear from you. Even if you haven't composted before this could be for you. You must be at least 18 years old and live in County Durham.

You'll get training, learn new skills and make new friends. In return, you'll need to spend at least 30 hours volunteering in your local area over a 12 month period.

Ask for master composter support

If you'd like a master composter to attend an event, give a talk to or give advice to your school, please Contact Waste Management.
