Positive Approach to Care (PAC)

Teepa Snow has developed the Positive Approach to Care concept to support people living with dementia. This course equips carers with specific skills aimed at increasing understanding of what it is like to live with dementia. Her approach is focused on care delivery, rather than theories.

Who the course is for?

This course is for all Health and Social Care staff working in residential care settings.

Learning method

The course is delivered over 1 day and is face to face training. Suzannah Thwaites (Advanced Clinical Practitioner Occupational Therapist) with Care Home Liaison and she is also a certified PAC trainer deliver the training.

What you will learn

By completing this course, you will learn the concept of GEMS where people living with dementia are viewed as precious gems (sapphire, diamond, emerald, amber, ruby, and pearl. The focus is on what skills remain, rather than what is lost.

Course benefits

You will learn how the brain changes and helps you understand and appreciate what it is like to live with dementia. Therefore, the caregiver can be flexible in their approach to make caring easier by matching the approach with the specific needs of the individual.

Course dates and times

There are currently no dates planned.

How to book

If you require this training, please email tewv.chlhub@nhs.net to express an interest (maximum two staff per care home).
