Mickleton Conservation Area

Mickleton is a small village situated in the west of County Durham. Lying on the south bank of the River Tees, along the B6277, it's located eight miles north-west of Barnard Castle and two miles south-west of Middleton-in-Teesdale.

Mickleton's character is firmly rooted in its agricultural heritage with numerous former farmsteads and their ancillary buildings still providing the core characteristics of the built heritage.

The conservation area was originally designated in 1987 and was reviewed and amended in 2012.

Mickleton Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Proposals

To ensure County Durham's conservation areas are properly managed, we produce Conservation Area Character Appraisal documents that will help raise awareness of their special character and interest. The Mickleton Conservation Area Character Appraisal was formally approved by our Cabinet on 12 December 2012 and recommends ways to improve and to manage change as well as providing an interesting history and snapshot of the area.
