Delivered in partnership with the NHS this programme of learning aims to provide a comprehensive education package on the prevention of pressure and moisture damage within care homes and home care settings. Patients cared for within community settings and at home have many co-morbidities, most of which have a detrimental impact on skin integrity.
Who the course is for
This course is ideal for anyone who works in Health and Social Care in County Durham.
Learning method
Sessions are delivered face to face onsite at provider locations.
A competency sheet is completed following the session to check learning and discussed/marked at the end of the session. Staff can then take away their completed sheet as an aide memoire.
What you will learn
By completing this course, you will understand:
- The standardised education programme on pressure and moisture damage prevention, including general skin care, normal skin physiology, and age degeneration on skin physiology.
- Knowledge and increased information to facilitate appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
- How to reduce the number of pressure ulcers acquired across all categories.
Course benefits
- Be able to focus on the prevention of pressure ulcers and moisture lesions rather than the treatment of such events.
- Share best practice on treatment to prevent the delay of wound healing and leading to prevention strategies being unsuccessful.
- The recommendation for best practice would be to standardise education for all care settings, utilising shared protocols and collaborative practice.
