Photo ID reminder ahead of Spennymoor election

Published May 18, 2023 9.06am

Voters in Spennymoor are being reminded of the need to bring photo ID ahead of a town council election there next month.

An election is taking place on Thursday, 8 June in the Low Spennymoor and Tudhoe Grange Ward of Spennymoor Town Council.

We are reminding anyone who wishes to vote at this election that they must be registered to vote in this area and must also show an acceptable form of photo ID, in line with the requirements of the UK Government's Election Act.

Accepted forms of photo ID include passports, driving licences and concessionary travel passes, such as an older person's bus pass. Voters will also be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photograph.

A full list of acceptable photo ID can be found online at Gov.uk: how to vote: Photo ID you'll need.

Voters who do not have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, online at Gov.uk: apply for photo ID to vote (called a 'Voter Authority Certificate')). Anyone who needs help to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate, or who would like a paper application form, should Contact Electoral Services.

All applications for a free Voter Authority Certificate for this election must be received by 5.00pm on Wednesday, 31 May.

Anyone who is not registered to vote, or who has recently moved house in the Low Spennymoor and Tudhoe Grange Ward and not informed electoral services, is encouraged to register at Register to vote through Gov.uk by Monday, 22 May.

Delivery of poll cards to residents has begun ahead of the election. Anyone currently registered on the electoral register and eligible to vote will receive a poll card providing details of their allocated polling station.

Anyone who is listed on the electoral register can request a postal or proxy vote. The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday, 23 May, and for proxy vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday, 31 May.

To request a paper copy of either application form, Contact Electoral Services
