Enhancing Wheatley Hill through community action

Published October 07, 2022 3.28pm

People in Wheatley Hill can share their thoughts on how to enhance their community from next week.

Our Community Action Team is inviting residents and businesses to have their say on which issues it should focus on as it begins an 11-week programme in the area.

The team will work to tackle concerns raised by residents, including housing and environmental issues, and will play a key role in promoting healthier lifestyles.

It involves officers from a range of our teams, including planning and community protection, working alongside partner organisations such as Durham Constabulary and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, to carry out a programme of works until Saturday 24 December.

Cllr John Shuttleworth, Cabinet member for rural communities, highways and community safety, said: "By working together with residents and partners, we can help to make a real difference where it's most needed and wanted in Wheatley Hill. Combining our knowledge, skills and resources allows us to make substantial enhancements that will create long-term benefits for communities.

"We would encourage residents and businesses to go along to the drop-in sessions to meet the team and share their concerns and suggestions for the area. We value people's feedback and look forward to working with everyone at Wheatley Hill in the run up to Christmas."

Attend a drop-in session

Drop-in sessions are being held on Tuesday 11 October between 10am and 1pm at Greenhills Centre, on Stephens Terrace, and on Wednesday 19 October from 6pm until 7.30pm at Wheatley Hill Workmen's Social Club, on Quilstyle Road.

Following two weeks of public engagement, a series of priority actions will be implemented over a period of seven weeks of work.

Further information on the community action project and work taking place in Wheatley Hill is available on our Community Action Scheme page.
