Bringing a touch of magic to road safety messages

Allan's Road Safety Magic Show is visiting ten schools across the county to perform to Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils.

It has been organised by us to raise awareness of the Slow to 20 Safer Streets programme, supporting the introduction of reduced speed limits outside of schools.  

The show covers a number of vital road safety messages to help children stay safe near roads.

From learning how to stop, look and listen and finding safe places to cross, to learning how to use different types of light controlled crossings, pupils will learn in a fun and engaging way through the art of magic.

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: "It is so important that we engage with our children in a fun and vibrant way to help them learn key lessons in safety that will stay with them for a long time.

"Bringing magic into our schools is the perfect way to do this. It's a fantastic method of encouraging road safety and we are sure that pupils will also be reminding their families of these top tips when they go back home."

The ten schools hosting the magic show are: Toft Hill Primary School; St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Coundon; St Pius X RC Primary School, Consett; Witton Gilbert Primary School; Sunnybrow Primary School; The Grove Primary School; Langley Park Primary School; St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Langley Moor; Victoria Lane Academy, Coundon; and Stephenson Way Academy, Newton Aycliffe.
